Obituary

With her husband, daughter, and sister by her side, Sandra Price Cleveland joined the heavenly angels peacefully at home in Mims, Fla., on April 18, 2018.

Sandra, known to many as "Sandy" and "Sassy Sandy," was born in St. Louis, Mo., on Jan. 8, 1953. Spending her childhood and teen years there, she attended Roosevelt High School. As a blonde, curly haired kid, she enjoyed swimming at Tower Grove Park and watching Friday night shows at the historical Shenandoah Theater. Alongside her brother, she took her first job at age 15 at the Steak 'n Shake on Chippewa Street, which resulted in a lifelong love of the restaurant. She considered her sister's bologna sandwiches on "soft white bread" one of her favorite childhood treats. A lifelong Christian, Sandra was a member of The Grove Church. She was a strong believer in Christ and was referred to by many as a very spiritual person. Sandra had a strong connection with angels and collected dozens of beautiful angel statuettes.

Sandra left St. Louis in 1970 and lived in several places, including California, Colorado, Maryland, New Jersey, and Tennessee. She finally settled in Titusville, Fla., in 1982 and met the love of her life, Randall Cleveland, in 1988. They married in 1991 and were together for 33 years — married for 27 — and the couple were playfully referred to as "Sandy and Randy." They enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping in Florida's State Parks, cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska, cooking and dining out, hosting parties such as the annual Christmas Eve family gathering, and boating, as she found water very peaceful. Their marriage is an example to others as one based on trust, respect, and tradition. Living their entire lives together on Jaydee Drive in Mims, Sandy and Randy filled their home with lots of love and special memories. It's adorned with the photos and prized possessions they collected during their time together.

Sandra was best friends with her daughter Michelle. They supported each other through good times and bad, and among many mother-daughter traditions they shared was Thursday night tea-time and game night with Sandra’s grand- and great grandchildren. Sandra's grandchildren were at the center of her life and the source of immense pride and joy. Sandra and Michelle cherished their daily talks and enjoyed spending time together while thrifting, cruising, lunching, cooking, couponing, and indoor firearms practice. Sandra also enjoyed music and attending numerous concerts with family including Tina Turner, Rod Stewart, Leon Russell, ZZ Top, Shania Twain, Stevie Nicks, Bonnie Raitt, Kenny Rogers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Little River Band, and AC/DC.

Sandra was a waitress and skilled bartender at some of Brevard County's most popular dining and entertainment spots, including Captain Ed's, Best Western, The Lamp Lighter, and Ramada Inn where she first met Randy. She was known for making a "killer" White Russian. In 1991, she began a 27-year career as a greeter with Carnival Cruise Lines. She always greeted passengers with a genuine smile and told everyone to "have a blessed day." She was very respected by her coworkers and was often assigned challenging passenger issues because of her kind nature and ability to lift others' spirits.

Family and friends described Sandra with words such as wonderful, beautiful, playful, giggly, funny, inspiring, courageous, adventurous, and one of a kind. It was said there wasn't a person she met with whom she couldn't strike up a friendly conversation, and that she touched many people's lives and left the world a better place with her loving and caring spirit.

Sandra was predeceased by her parents, Howard and Mildred Price, and her brother James Price. She is survived by her husband Randall Cleveland, their daughter Michelle Hankes, and son-in-law Victor Rubert; three grandchildren, their spouses, and six great grandchildren: grandson Michael Hankes, his wife Sarah, and their daughter Juliet; granddaughter Casey Davis, her husband James, and their children Kayla and Kylie; and grandson Matthew Hankes, his wife Shannon, and their children Ryen, Silas, and Porter. She is survived by seven siblings: Zona Lammond and her husband Larry; Mary Britt and her husband Don; Doris Prewitt; Howard Price and his wife Pat; Priscilla Longo and her husband John; Ken Price and his wife Diana; and Glen Price.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at 4:30 p.m. at Holder Park in Mims. Covered dishes are welcome.
