Obituary

Robert William Hall, known to friends and family as Bill, age 69, died of complications relating to cancer on Tuesday, November 26, 2019. He passed away peacefully in his home in Orlando, FL, surrounded by his family. Survivors include his loving wife Velia Hall of Orlando, FL, sons Richard Hall of Orlando, FL and Robert Hall of Brooklyn, NY, in-laws Hortensia and Carl Cibrian of Los Angeles, CA, and Emmett Murphy of Brooklyn, NY. He is also survived by beloved cousins and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his sister, Maralee White. Bill was born in Burbank, CA to Richard Hall and Harriet Hall, née Hodson. His mother educated him in the teachings of the Bahá'í Faith, and he formally declared his faith at the age of 15. As a young man, he formed close bonds with friends Jerry, Norm, and “Bone-Break.” Bill was a talented guitarist and joined forces with Bill Dungan, as the two “Bills” gigged around the San Fernando Valley in a semi-professional rock band. He attended North Hollywood High School, where he met Velia Balaguer. After graduation they married. He attended Valley Junior College and received an Associates Degree in Electronics. Shortly after embarking on a career, Bill and Velia moved to Portland, OR, where they had their two sons. An opportunity from his employer, Tektronix, led the family to re-settle in Orlando, FL just a few years later. Bill’s career eventually brought him into employment with AT&T and Lucent Technologies. Nearing his retirement at 62, Bill became a realtor and began investing in real estate. In times of tests and difficulties, he found solace fishing. For a few years, Bill enjoyed sailing the waters off Cape Canaveral and Titusville in his boat. He dreamed of the perfect fishing expedition in the mountains. Ever drawn to mountain landscapes, he traveled often to the western United States, where he could take in the sprawling hills of Southern California or the rugged terrains of Arizona and New Mexico. His passion and respect for music inspired his children to become musicians themselves, and he is remembered at evening times, strumming his guitar quietly as the family watched television reruns. Bill joined the local Bahá'í community when he moved to Orlando, served on the Local Spiritual Assembly for a time, and fulfilled a lifelong aspiration of visiting the North American Bahá'í House of Worship in Wilmette, IL. His faith and his marriage were his most prized possessions. Bill and Velia spent over 47 beautiful and loving years together.
