Owis B Long

Owis Burniss Long, 87, a computer engineer and resident of Christmas, Florida and Mims, Florida passed away peacefully on Sunday February 17th, 2019 after a gradual decline in health. He was surrounded by the love of his longtime companion Bonnie Oakley, his loving daughter Terra, Son in Law Kevin Laughlin and caregiver Gary Larsen.

Owis Burniss Long, OB to his family and friends, was born in Midway, Mississippi on January 27, 1932 to O.B. Long and Annie Mae (DeLoach) Long. OB is survived by his loving companion Bonnie Oakley. He was a devoted father to Dennis (Debbie) Long, Terra (Kevin) Laughlin, Donald (Lora) Long, Lois Sparkman and Diane White. He was a proud grandpa to 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. A caring brother to Donald (Patsy) Long and Linnie Rose Jellum, and predeceased by his parents OB Long and Annie Mae (Deloach) Long, brother Huey, James and Sister Vergie Ray.

After his discharge from the service, he earned a Bachelor of Science in computer engineering from UCF in Orlando, FL. Working as an Electronic Technician for RCA as a Fire controller on Radars in Grand Turke. He also worked for Harris Corp. in Palm Bay, FL as a software engineer and computer programmer.

OB was a longtime member of the American Legion Post I, VFW 4228 and Fraternity of Eagles 3581 in which he was a finance officer for a bit of time. He volunteered for Guardian Ad Litem, helped start and coached the Lassie League soft ball for girls, Boy Scout troop leader, and Santa for the children’s Christmas parties at Harris Corp. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
