Albertine C McLendon

January 16, 1923 ~ February 23, 2024 (age 101) 101 Years Old

Obituary

Albertine C. McLendon, 101, of Titusville, FL passed away peacefully on February 23, 2024.

Born on January 16, 1923, in Barnesville, GA, she is the daughter of the late Soterios Manthis and Marie Aurelie (Rastello) Burousas.

‘Kiki’ or ‘Mama’, as she is fondly remembered by her friends, descendants and relatives lived her your life in Barnesville Georgia, near Gordon Military school where her eventual husband Eric Livingston McLendon attended. As a young girl their family made the drive to Daytona Beach each year, starting a life-long attraction for the beach. They were married during WW2 and Eric served overseas in both Japan and Europe active duty. ‘Kiki’ worked’ as did many women, for the war effort waiting on her husband’s next deployment, some she could join, some not. She was with him overseas for years in Trieste, Italy. Eventually they got out of the Army and moved to Florida culminating in Titusville in 1963 at the beginning of the space race ramp up. She lived a wonderful life raising and supporting her family, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, involved in PTA, served as a Grey Lady volunteer, sewed outfits for the Titusville centennial celebration, kind of silly, but a lot of fun. She also worked full-time at Sears in office administration.

Eventually moving back to Gainesville, Georgia to join her daughter Lauren and their children where she got to be grandmother to Eric and Bryan Burnette which was wonderful for all of them. When the time came for her to find a home back in Titusville, she chose an organization/home that is now called Crescent Wood. This proved to be a fortuitous decision in that she lived for several years in her own independent apartment and only in the last year of her life did she utilize their assisted living facility.

She was very happy in this environment, just a short drive (she drove until she was 96) from her son Kelly and her grandson Ryan. She made many new friends at Crescent Wood amongst the residents and staff. She lived with her cat Cali who meant the world to her for as long as she could, when she couldn’t any long the cat went very successfully over to a neighbor (who we all appreciate very much).

She is survived and will be lovingly missed by her children Kelly McLendon and wife Marisa of Titusville, FL, and Lauren K. McLendon Burnette and husband Carroll of Comer, GA; her grandchildren Ryan McLendon, Eric Burnette, Bryan Burnette and their wives Katherine Wilen and Lauren Carter. Great Grandchildren include Hayden Burnette, Hayden, Hannah, Carter Ann and Maddie Jo. Nieces include Nancy Major and Bonnie Legg and nephew Chip Williams.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Eric of 66 years and her son baby Eric McLendon.

A private interment will be held at the family site in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Tampa.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Albertine’s honor to the SPCA or any charity that directly benefits animals.
