Obituary

Albert Carl Grundmann, 90, died Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Autumn House in Melbourne. Albert was born on April 27, 1928 in Edgewood, Alabama to August Carl and Clara Grundmann Nee Smith.

Al was kind, funny, energetic and a hard worker. He was voted both best citizen and best all-around in high school. He played college football but was sidelined with knee injuries. He graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering.

He married his wife Ina in 1960 who gave him the affectionate nickname of “Fuzzy Bear.” Entering into their marriage Al took on four young girls under the age of 8 providing them with a supportive and loving father figure.

He worked for McDonnell Douglas/Boeing for 38 years. His job provided his family the opportunity to live and travel to many places before settling in Central Florida in 1972 where he remained until his death.

Al enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, walking, riding his bike, boating, camping and a good margarita. He was a former Member of New Covenant Church Winter Springs. He was a godly man blessed with a kind, generous, and giving spirit. Anxious to spread the word any way he could; he was known to reach out the less fortunate and provide them a meal while not missing an opportunity to share God’s word as they broke bread.

He lived out his last years at the Autumn House Assisted Living in Melbourne, FL where he was cared for with the utmost respect, kindness, and compassion as they assisted Al with the daily struggles of living with Alzheimer’s.

Al is survived by his Children Jana Pitts, Nancy Lyle, Suzanne Pitts, Mark Grundmann and Julie Miller; his grandchildren Jennifer Britt, Diana Britt, William Lyle, Jr., Alison Lyle, Donald Lyle, Peter Grundmann, Katie Grundmann and Zach Miller; great grandchildren Marina Britt, Amelia Lyle and Aria Lyle. Al was preceded in death by his wife Ina, his daughter Carolyn Shiveley and his siblings Phyllis Anne Grundmann, Hugh Grundmann and Barbara Caddel.

He was loved more than words can express and will never be forgotten. A private ceremony will be held for immediate family only. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Autumn House in Melbourne, FL.
